There is a new band in the Bay Area that you should probably be aware of if you’re trying to keep up with your shit. They are called KNOW SECRETS (no pun intended) and feature homies Eric (of Static Thought) and Meghan (of Punch).

They recently recorded their debut, a 5-song EP, with Jack at The Atomic Garden. And today, we are dropping this teaser video documenting the recording process, as well as the cover art for their upcoming EP (look for it on the post above).

From the songs that i have heard, this is gonna be a fun record and a very rad band. I will be posting the title track, also named “Know Secrets”, in a few minutes and you will want to check out the rest of it once it is available through the 301 Collective. So keep your eye out in a few months. And tell your friends.

The homies in CALCULATOR sent me this brand new track a few days ago. They recently finished recording their first full length and are in the midst of releasing the record themselves. This track is titled “Guided by Moonlight” and serves as a good sampler of what is to come from the rest of this full length, which is titled “This Will Come to Pass”.

Right now, these Los Angeles natives are running a Kickstarter campaign to try to help them fund this release and their upcoming US tour. Think of it as a “pre-order”; If you wanna go ahead and secure a copy of this record, donate some money HERE.

Anyways, “Guided by Moonlight” is on some real emo shit. It is a very well thought-out and passionate jam that would get anyone on the CMHWAK all stoked to hear the rest of the record. Somewhere, Greg Drudy (while sitting on a huge stack of Forstella Ford records) is nodding his head and wishing he could put this out.

Among other things on this vacation, we were extremely lucky in the whole weather-department as well. The sun was shinning throughout our whole trip and nothing beats some warm weather while having a goodass time. So anyways, we took the subway over to the Lower East Side, to visit a few more shops on my list: Reed Space, The Good Company, and Alife and a few shops on Rachel’s list: Babycakes and Doughnut Plant (holy shit, the piña colada doughnut). After that, we hung out with our homegirl Lace who showed us around here neighborhood in Brooklyn and took us out for some drinks and food (i have no idea why i didn’t take any photos of her [cause she rules]).

Just right outside our hotel, we also checked out High Line park. It was a block or two away from Hotel Gansevoort and we kinda found it by accident on the way to the Comme des Garçons shop, but it was a really cool walk and a tight spot to hangout at for sure. From there, we took the subway down to Battery Park for some more sightseeing/must-do-touristy-crap (but we had to). We saw Lady Liberty, tried to buy a sweet Rolex from a totally credible citizen, and heard some guy talk about 9/11 conspiracies.

Four days is so not enough time to visit this city (and i’m sure this goes for most places), but for this place it is really not enough time. There was so much more on our to-do-lists that we did not even touch. We are already starting to plan our trip back. Hopefully in September. Hopefully when the Giants are in town. Hopefully, we’ll see.

Started the day off by hanging out on our hotel’s roof with a nice cold beer. The view of the neighborhood was pretty on point and the pool was sweet. We then took the subway uptown to the Central Park, but of course, first had to pay a visit to the Momofuku Milk Bar for some cookies and pie (really good cookies). We spent the next couple of hours walking around Central Park and also checking out the Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (so bummed we missed the “Chaos to Couture” exhibit by a few days).

That evening, we had tickets to a Yankees game. I am a diehard Giants fan, but the Oakland A’s were in town and i had to root for the Bay (and the A’s won by the way). We were also sitting next to a gang of A’s fans, which made for a very fun game. After that, we hopped back on the subway and headed down to Times Square. We walked around a bit, made some custom M&M’s, stood in front of 30 Rock, took some ever-so-touristy photos and chilled with an overweight Spiderman…all in day’s work.
