…recently it was John’s bday. and since he’s one of the only grownass dudes left (that i hang around) that still, genuinely, no joke, like for reals, loves to watch WWE wrestling, i thought it was an awesome coincidence that Smackdown was coming to San Francisco right around the same time. so i bought up 2 tickets for me and him to go this past weekend.

we took the train up to the sketchyass Cow Palace, drank a few brewskies on the ride, drank a few brewskies in the parking lot, and rolled inside with a few brewskies stashed in John’s bag. and you know what, it was pretty fucking tight. (and i don’t think it was just because of the excessive amount of brewskies). i had a real good time. it was fun, JuneBug loved it, and we got to see everything from just 7 rows behind the ring.

The Beast x Old Groves

…shoutout to longtime homie ALBERT and his blog OLD GROVES. i’ve known this dude for a whiiiiile and he’s always been an awesome, solid person. lately, he’s been keeping himself busy by taking rad, often scenic, photos of his life. i think these photos help give you insight of the easy life of The Beast. i also bring this up cause he is about to put out his NEW ZINE next week. i’m stoked to see how that comes out and glad to have some of his stuff printed, in my hands.

pictured above is Albert in his prime. on the cover of Comadre’s Mixtape #2. we did a bunch of covers by singer-songwriters for it (Elliott Smith, Paul Baribeau, Mirah, ect). Albert also did the intro for the tape. if you don’t got it, download that shit for free HERE.

…i got this package from Canada a few days ago. it was sent by ANDREW KWERTY and among a bunch of awesome little gifts, it included his latest zine “CXXXVIII”. definitely one of the best packaging jobs for a zine. everything was wrapped together by a custom band. and it is actually 3 zines in 1, all border-less, and all filled with awesome photography by Andrew. it also came with 3 photo prints that were packaged alone in a black envelope. and a bunch of stickers and pins and a patch. shit looks good homie. sorry to say that it is now SOLD OUT on his store though. so if you got it, then you got it.

…CHECK THIS SITE OUT when you get a chance. it’s pretty damn tight what BNE wants to do (and is currently doing) with the underground art world. essentially, this NYC graffiti artist spent a good amount of time traveling the world putting his name up everywhere, on everything. and at some point he decided to use his name (which was only getting more and more popular [and noticed]) towards a call to action on positive social change. so he started the BNE WATER FOUNDATION; a non-profit organization that helps to provide clean water to people living in extreme poverty all over the world. and so far they have raised over $30,000 from donations and selling pieces…but more importantly, they have provided over 1,500 people with safe, clean water for decades.

i’ve donated some bucks their way. you should too. and keep that shit going.

and speaking of BNE being all over the world, i took these photos on the Comadre tour in Japan, Malaysia and Australia (respectively). stay up. peace.

in other news, i wanna give a shoutout to the homies over at PRESSURE & INK PRINTING over in Cologne, Germany. they are a newish screen-printing company that my real good homie Dan xAfricax works at. they do everything from print t-shirts, bags, sweatshirts, patches, posters, stickers, whatever you want, to now making buttons, and having a van and backline for rent for tours in Europe. Dan did Comadre’s printing here in the states when he was living here and i can guarantee nothing but quality products from that dude at a good price.

…i’ve gotten a good amount of texts/online messages in the past few days from different people all over the world saying that they have received their copy of DARKARTS 4 and how stoked they are on the magazine. that rules. thanks for all the kind words and for ordering. this zine is out of 40 copies, is SOLD OUT, and will not be repressed.

next up for the DA crew is a line of new t-shirts and other apparel for the 2012 Spring Season. keep your eyes open for that and previews coming soon. we also have some other custom products coming out that i can’t talk about just yet…but shit will be awesome and look dope.

…here are some preview shots of the new ALOVETOKEN releases titled “Brainfarts 4” and “Brainfarts 5”. i brought these zines up a few days ago, and mentioned that they are both awesome works that i am very stoked on. the ALT kids did a great job putting it all together and the pieces really tell a story as you flip the pages. from the original drawings and photographs featured in the zines, to the hand-made packaging surrounding the product, both of these releases are a must have for your zine collection.

…the other day, i wrote about how ATLAS was asked to play a party for a new skateboard shoe company here in SF. Karl Watson is backing the whole thing, and he called up Diego to see if they would be interested in doing a set. so they say yes. and so the whole crew came out deep for the event. it’s tight to see Atlas play their shit live. (and if you don’t know what the hell i’m talking about, then you A: are fucking up, and B: need to go download their whole record for FREE). i had a good time with the homies. Atlas was definitely tight. the spot was cool. they had the free drinks happening. and Scotty P almost cut some fools. soooo yeah, can’t beat that for a Saturday night.

…the homies from the ALOVETOKEN crew have recently put out the 2 latest issues of their “Brainfarts” zine series. the LA-based crew have been killing it lately (actually, really, ever since i’ve met them), and they have not slowed down one bit. these guys have been constantly pumping out quality shit and i’m stoked to have them a part of the DA crew as well.

anyways, “Brainfarts 4” is a 50-page zine featuring illustrations by Shugs. and “Brainfarts 5” is a 30-page zine featuring photos by Saves. both of them contain awesome pieces of work, and their individual packaging and attention to detail rule. both issues do a hell of a good job documenting what the ALT crew is all about. California livin, homie.

you can now purchase both of these zines separately or (as a way better idea) together in a combo-deal over at the ALT ONLINE SHOP. together, it is super cheap and very much worth it. but, if you are super cheap yourself and just like getting FREE shit like the rest of us, then i would just recommend you to check back on this blog on the daily within the next few days to find out how to possibly WIN A COPY HERE.

Seattle Vacation x Part 3

…day 2 (continuation) of my trip to Seattle with Rachel. after we left the EMP museum, it started to rain, so we took a cab back down to the piers to check out the aquarium. and that was pretty tight. there was a 10-day old sea otter pup that was cute as hell and i got to touch a bunch of weird shit. after that, we headed over to Capital Hill to do some shopping and exploring. we checked out the Stussy store, GOODS, Cake Spy Shop; and one of the places Rachel really wanted to go to was Cupcake Royal. i’m not really a huge fan of sweets, but that place was definitely the coolest cupcake spot i’ve seen (and because of Rachel, trust me, i’ve seen a LOT). they had an awesome setup and their packaging for their products was on point. after that, we had dinner at Plum Bistro, headed back to downtown, had drinks at PNK Lounge, went to chill in our hotel for a bit, and then took a cab back to the Cha Cha Lounge were we spent the rest of the night.

Seattle is tight as hell.

Seattle Vacation x Part 2

…day 2 was a complete day of stuff that me and Rachel wanted to do. we had planned to hit up the EMP museum, the Space Needle, the aquarium, about 3 different cupcake spots, anything else that Capital Hill had to offer as far as coolass shit goes, and of course the Cha Cha Lounge.

our first stop was this spot called Yellow Leaf Cupcake for breakfast, which was just a block away from our hotel. from there, we walked the rest of the way to the Space Needle and EMP. it was my first time inside the museum, and needless to say i was completely stoked about their current Nirvana exhibit and horror-film exhibit. both of those ruled all kinds. they had everything from Nirvana’s demo tape to the full body suit from Alien.

i’ll have to split this day into 2 parts cause there’s a bunch of photos from the rest of the night. so, this day is to be continued tomorrow…

Seattle Vacation x Part 1

…about a week ago, Rachel and i went on a kinda-last-minute vacation up to Seattle for a few days. it was her first time there so we had a lot to do in the 50 or so hours that we were there. and shit started off right as soon as we landed: it was super sunny, the train that we needed to take to downtown was easy to find, our hotel was 3 blocks away from the station, and the hotel was an awesome spot with a view of the space needle right outside our window.

day 1 was spent doing a bunch of walking since it was so sunny out. we went to Pike Place Market, (had to go to) the first Starbucks, down to the waterfront and piers, grabbed a bunch of awesome things to snack on all day long, and then we took a bus up to Bothell to have dinner with my family that lives up there. after that, we got back to Seattle and took a cab over to a random bar that had all the hype on yelp. tight.

…DA4 is a collaborative effort by 13 different homies of the DARKARTSDOOMCREW. it is the 4th issue of the full-length, seasonal DA magazine. and this one features LIFERS from Comadre, Punch, La Dispute, L’antietam, and the ALT and BOTY crews.

the magazine is 8.5inches by 11inches with a hard-stock cover and a total of 28 pages. each magazine comes with a hand-written note, will be hand-numbered, and include various stickers that were printed specifically for the release of this issue.

…DA4 goes on sale TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 1st right here on the siqshit blog. as mentioned in the earlier preview, the other 3 issues of the DARKARTS magazine sold out within hours of their release dates, so you will want to be on top of this and order a copy once it goes up. all orders will also come with a damn good amount of the free stickers that were blogged about yesterday.

by the way, only 40 copies are being printed and that is it. once they are all sold, they are sold out for good. there will be no reprint for these.
